Hair Transplantation

Hair loss is a fact of life. Almost everyone experiences some degree of hair loss in his or her lifetime. Although medical treatment is available for many causes of hair loss, hair transplantation is the only permanent means of hair restoration in almost all sufferers.

Hair transplantation is a highly specialized form of surgery that is performed by trained dermatologists and plastic surgeons in Singapore. While it is most often performed for male and female pattern baldness, hair loss of many causes can be treated with hair transplantation as long as the loss is fairly stable. For example, hairless scars on the scalp that arise from skin disease, trauma or previous surgery can be transplanted to hide the scar and improve the general appearance of the sufferer. Even lost eyebrows can be corrected by hair transplant to restore normality to the face.

In essence, hair transplantation involves the removal of hairy skin from a donor site on the scalp and transplanting this into bald areas (recipient site) where hair growth is desired. The process is illustrated below.

The creation of a natural and aesthetic hairline in the front and the direction of growth of the transplanted hair are two issues of primary importance to the final result of the surgery.

Possible side-effects of hair transplantation include some degree of discomfort in the immediate post-operative period, wound infection, scarring and resultant poor hair growth. Multiple sessions of transplantation may be necessary to achieve an aesthetic result depending on the age, severity of the hair loss and the personal needs of the patient.

Although hair transplantation appears to be conceptually simple, excellent results can only be obtained through meticulous surgical planning and strict attention to detail during the surgery. Properly executed, hair transplantation can free the sufferer of hair loss from the daily grind of pills, lotions and hair-pieces and offer a lifetime of satisfaction.

Tips for the Perfect Mid-Day Touch-Up

Makeup Trends for 2007

Paris, Milan, New York…Milwaukee? Wherever You Live, You Can Be a Trendsetter in Your Own Hometown

From the catwalks of New York and Milan, to the runways of Paris, or standing in front of your makeup mirror, you can achieve the latest look and be a trendsetter in your own hometown. Just be a savvy consumer, find out about new products, and then play. “Look to what’s new in making your skin and complexion fabulous. Last season’s products are out of date,” says BJ Gillian, top cosmetic guru, who creates palette strategies for some of the top companies in the industry. He has helped create “the look” for P&G Beauty, Boots #7, and Avon products, as well as introducing the Cover Girl brand to the Chinese media in Beijing.

BJ takes a lively, modern approach to makeup. Although quite often you’ll find him applying the latest makeup trends to such celebrities as Jennifer Anniston, Teri Hatcher, George Clooney, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Brinkley just to name a few, he has some practical advice for those of us who are not famous faces. He urges men and women to invest in skin care. The most important step is to pay attention to your skin. Take a good look at your face and deal with the breakouts, dark circles, and other issues you might have. Invest in a palette - products and colors – that will help you look great under any circumstances.

BJ reminds us that cosmetic formulas change as quickly as the seasons. “Be a savvy consumer at every price point,” he says. “There are great products in the drugstores and the department stores. Look for what is available for skin types and always look for what’s new.” His goal is to provide women with “easy, practical solutions to their needs, and combine them with just enough unique magic” to create the look they dream about.

Read all of BJ’s Tips – right here at CareFair - for a great looking face this season. There’s no time like the present to start your dream!

Tips for Soft Hair

There are many natural solutions for soft manageable hair. If your hair needs some help maintaining its softness this season, try a natural remedy before spending a fortune at the beauty supply store.

Rinse your Hair with Vinegar

An old-fashioned vinegar rinse gives your hair softness and shine by balancing its pH levels. To make your own, mix 1 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of water and use the whole solution on your hair after you shampoo. Don’t worry about the vinegar smell that seems to linger on your hair after this treatment. The smell will be gone after about 15 minutes. You can use a vinegar rinse every day to clarify and condition your hair.

Add your Favorite Natural Oil to your Shampoo

Everyone has a different preference when it comes to the scents and textures of oil to nourish and moisturize your hair. Almond, peanut, coconut, castor, sunflower, and sesame oil are all commonly used in hair preparations to add amino acids, moisture and other benefits to your hair. Adding one to a few tablespoons of oil to your shampoo lets you have the best of both worlds. You can keep your commercial products while getting the benefits of the natural oils.

Crack an Egg

Egg yolks soften the hair by adding beneficial proteins and vitamins like vitamin B5 which helps prevent hair loss. To give your hair an egg yolk deep condition, blend 2 yolks with one cup of water. Add a tablespoon or two of olive oil for extra moisture. Apply the mixture evenly to your hair and massage it in for about 5 minutes. Cover your hair with a shower cap for 15 minutes, and then rinse with tepid water. Be careful not to rinse your hair with hot water, or you will cook the egg and it will be difficult to get out.

Wash your Hair with Castor Oil

Castor oil is practically odorless and has been known to soften skin and hair. To make a castor oil shampoo treatment, simply mix ¼ cup of castor oil with ¼ cup of water and use the entire solution to wash your hair. Massage the oil into your head thoroughly before rinsing it out. Mix this shampoo fresh every time you use it, and if you like the results wash with castor oil once a week to keep your hair smooth and soft.

Try a Hot Olive Oil Treatment

When we think of hot oil treatments, we often think of elusive chemicals without realizing natural oils that are beneficial to the hair can easily be utilized as hot oil treatments to soften hair. Simply warm ¼ cup or so of the highest quality extra virgin olive oil in a dropper bottle or plastic bottle by dropping the bottle in hot tap water (a baby bottle will work well for this). Once the oil is warm, apply it to shampooed hair and let it soak in with a shower cap on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse and style as usual. Leave some of the oil in your hair if your hair is excessively dry as a leave in treatment.

Hair Trends for 2007

It’s a new year and with it comes change. All around us we’ll see the latest trends whether it be in fashion or in beauty. We want to know what’s hot and the hairstyles for 2007 are certainly no exception. This year we’ll see the continuation of length in both waves and romantic curls will be favored. Hair will be more natural for 2007 and chemical use is definitely out. Instead add-on hairpieces will be favored as well as anything that doesn’t damage hair. Long lengths are great for women who don’t mind taking a little time for this style. Flip through your favorite hairstyle magazine for this style then try out the secret many salons are sharing. Spritz hair with salt water and let hair dry for a natural wavy look without the chemical damage. For a celebrity copycat look, check out Jessica Alba and Shakira who have been seen wearing this style. Even with the popularity of length, shorter styles are certainly no stranger to 2007 latest hair trends either. Shaggy styles, pixies and bobs that are very short at the nape have suddenly become popular thanks to the celebrity world. Curls are popular on the shorter styles as well. Short styles work well for the business world. For ideas check out the latest hairstyle magazine or look for celebrities like Halle Berry and Ellen Degeneres who are sporting this trendy style.

The side part is another popular hair trend. Think punk verses classic Twiggy for this style. For an idea of how this style looks, check out celebrities, Meg Ryan and Kirsten Dunst.

Hair accessories seem to be all the rage again this year as well. Women have been spotted in everything from headbands, to barrettes to silk flowers in their hair.

For color we’ll see women leaning toward lighter shades rather than darker ones. Also warmer shades will be a big hit. Expect shades of red and auburn to be popular as well.

For guys, we should expect to see a shorter style that is clean-cut verses the longer messy style. Hair will be above the collar lines sporting the still popular razor technique. The short and shaggy style is also popular this year for guys.

Men’s color will consist of softer- warmer shades rather than last year’s bold blond highlights.

Remember that the above styles will probably sport several variations, so you don’t have to stick with just one simple style. Find one that suits you. When in doubt, try doing a search online for your favorite celebrity to see what she’s wearing. If you don’t have a favorite celebrity, try a search online to see who’s popular. Chances are you’ll come up with celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Hillary Duff and Jessica Simpson who are always in style with the latest hair trends. Also hit the local magazine racks for a variety of hairstyle magazines. Here you can find everything from celebrity to short hairstyles magazines. You can also drop by your local salon and talk to a hairstylist who can guide you to the latest style that is right for you.
